Mnemonic for Facial nerve testing in cranial nerves
Face, ear, taste, tear
- Face – muscles of facial expression
- Ear – controls stapedius muscle, patient may complain of hyperacusis
- Taste – sensation to anterior 2/3 of tongue
- Tear – controls lacrimal glands through parasympathetic innervation
Symptoms may suggest facial nerve (VII) palsy e.g. Bell’s palsy
